“When Students are Traumatized, Teachers are Too.”

TIC (May, 2019)

“Being a teacher is a stressful job, but teachers are now responsible for a lot more things than just providing an education.”

This quote from the attached article (article link) is pertinent to what many educators are facing today. “When students are traumatized, teachers are too.” While the article is lengthy, we invite you to read some or all of it. We recognize your time is valuable, but there is some seriously good stuff in the article to support you. We also recognize the growing challenge of meeting the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of our students; therefore, we acknowledge the impact of Secondary Trauma (i.e., Compassion Fatigue) and importance of taking care of ourselves.

The following topics are in the article:

  • The real costs of trauma
  • Talking it out
  • Building coping strategies
  • Establishing-coming home rituals

This is the last TIC tip of the month for the school year. We hope you take time this summer to rest, relax, and renew. Allow yourself to come down from the hustle and bustle of the school year and provide the same care to yourself and your family that you have provided to your students. You are appreciated for all you have given and done for our students and their families.
