Jefferson (May, 2020) Findlay City Schools is proud to announce that Jefferson Primary has achieved and has been certified as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by FranklinCovey Education, joining Chamberlin Hill Intermediate. There are more than 300 schools worldwide that have met this prestigious benchmark. The Lighthouse Certification is a highly-regarded standard set by FranklinCovey that is attainable by every Leader in Me school.

Franklin Covey visited Jefferson to evaluate the environment, culture, and language at Jefferson. The program, which is not taught as a curriculum but rather incorporated in all classroom activities, is based on Dr. Stephen Covey’s bestseller, “ The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People .” The seven habits are: to be proactive, to begin with the end in mind, to put first things first, to think win-win, to seek first to understand then to be understood, to synergize, and to sharpen the saw. The lighthouse recognition is evidence that the school has produced outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the Leader in Me process with fidelity and excellence.

It is also because of the extraordinary impact the school is having on staff, students, parents, and the greater community. Findlay City Schools is particularly thankful to Raise the Bar, Hancock County, who partnered with the district to make the Leader in Me program possible. Jefferson Primary Principal, Kim Plesec, shared that the lighthouse designation “reinforces the hard work of our staff and students.”
