FINDLAY CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING MINUTES

March 22, 2021

The Findlay City Schools Board of Education met February 22, 2021 in regular session at 6:00 p.m. at Glenwood Middle School and via teleconference. President Siebenaler Wilson called the meeting to order. Present were Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Cooper, Ms. Eier, Mrs. Russel, Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, Treasurer Mr. Hammond, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Miller, and Superintendent Mr. Roth.

2021-003-007 READING, APPROVAL, AND SIGNING OF MINUTES

It was motioned by Mrs. Russel, seconded by Mr. Cooper to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes from February 22, 2021, Special Meeting Minutes from March 8, 2021, March 15, 2021 and March 16, 2021.

Roll call: Mrs. Russel, aye; Mr. Cooper, aye; Mr. Aldrich, aye; Ms. Eier, aye; Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, aye. President Siebenaler Wilson declared the motion carried.

CELEBRATIONS

Mrs. Simon welcomed everyone to Glenwood and shared a video. Dr. Siebenaler Wilson celebrated Millstream and their Med Tech students getting hands on experience assisting with both vaccine clinics. Ms. Eier celebrated Robyn Drerup’s retirement and spending more time with her family. She also celebrated Kathy Young’s retirement after 36 years. Ms. Eier congratulated Jaclyn Nelson on her new position as Washington Preschool Principal. Mrs. Russel celebrated 2 student authors/illustrators for winning the 2021 Tell a Tale writing competition. Mr. Aldrich celebrated Bigelow Hill and the start of the first virtual Big Shake. Mr. Aldrich expressed his appreciation for all Mrs. Baker has done to keep the Big Shake tradition going. Mr. Cooper celebrated the FHS state gymnastics qualifier, the runner-up in the state wrestling match, the 4 FHS swim team members, Coach Rucki as Coach of the Year, AJ Adams was co-player of the year, and a number of second team and honorable mentions in both girls’ and boys’ basketball. Dr. Siebenaler Wilson recognized Mr. Roth with a video recognizing his leadership and nomination as Our Hometown Hero. Mr. Roth celebrated Julie Routson for her phenomenal job during all the transitions. He also recognized Millstream Med Tech students and the second round of vaccines running smoothly.

2021-003-008 THE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION GRANTS

It was motioned by Mrs. Russel, seconded by Mr. Aldrich to approve the following grants:

  • The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation approved a grant of $15,000 to Findlay City Schools for General Support from The Dorothy F. Secor Fund. Grant # 2021135.
  • The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation approved a grant of $250.00 to the Findlay High School Athletic Department to support the Findlay High School state swim team which was suggested by Jeff and Elsa Shrader and funded from the Gregory James Shrader Donor Advised Fund. Grant # 2021049.
  • The Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation approved a grant of $416 to Millstream Career Center to support the carpentry and construction drawing programs from the Richard L. and Evelyn L. Hauman Millstream Career Center Fund. Grant # 2021125.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

 Jesse Hankins, on behalf of FEA, celebrated the senior class and thanked administration for working to allow the first ever Senior Promenade. He also recognized Mr. Wilson’s home base class for organizing a fundraiser called Donations for Dogs and Cash for Cats and in just 2 weeks have raised over $3400 for the Humane Society. He also wanted to recognize Jacobs and FHS for their community closets and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast musical in April.  A concerned parent addressed his issue with the new walk/ride policy.

CORRESPONDENCE

Mr. Hammond recognized National Lime and Stone for donating the stone to fill the bottom of Donnell Pond. Mr. Roth discussed the NLL (Northern Lakes League) letter.

SUPERINTENDENTS COMMENTS

Mr. Roth announced a Facilities Committee meeting will be scheduled for next week. He reminded everyone Thursday March, 25th will be a 2-hour delay for teachers to input grades. The final 4 week grading period begins on 3/25 and the next Board meeting is April 19, 2021 at Glenwood.

It was motioned by Mrs. Russel, seconded by Mr. Aldrich to go into executive session at 7:10 pm for the purpose of discussing employment and compensation of personnel and upcoming negotiations.
