FINDLAY CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING MINUTES

April 19, 2021

The Findlay City Schools Board of Education met April 19, 2021 in regular session at 6:00 p.m. at Glenwood Middle School and via teleconference. President Siebenaler Wilson called the meeting to order. Present were Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Cooper, Ms. Eier, Mrs. Russel, Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, Treasurer Mr. Hammond, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Miller, and Superintendent Mr. Roth.

2021-004-004 READING, APPROVAL, AND SIGNING OF MINUTES

It was motioned by Mrs. Russel, seconded by Mr. Aldrich to approve the regular Meeting Minutes from March 22, 2021, Special Meeting Minutes from March 24, 2021, March 30, 2021 and April 9, 2021.

CELEBRATIONS

Mr. Imke welcomed the Board and thanked them for all they’ve done to navigate through the pandemic. He said he was glad to have the students back 5 days a week and spring. There are a number of events taking place this spring to look forward too. He played a video the Leadership Class put together explaining all the activities they have been involved in. Ms. Eier went on a virtual art tour and said it is worth the 7 minute watch. She celebrated the musical and said she was looking forward the FFE’s Cabaret next weekend. Mrs. Russel celebrated Jacobs Right to Read Week in May with the theme Camping. She also celebrated Jefferson’s Literacy Grant from the Community Foundation. Mr. Aldrich celebrated Mr. Best at Wilson Vance, his students and staff for the amazing job they have all done through all the transitions this year. He also celebrated some of the teachers that were recognized in The Courier. Dr. Siebenaler Wilson celebrated Glenwood for successful state testing and the upcoming women in STEM program on April 22, 2021. She also celebrated Millstream’s 107 students being inducted into the NTHS.  Mr. Roth celebrated April 22nd, Administrative Professionals Day and April 27th is National Bus Drivers Day. Mr. Roth played a video from Mayor Muryn and thanked her for taking the time to read the proclamation for Teacher Appreciation Week May 3 – May 7.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Mrs. Biesiada, FEA Co-President, said she was looking forward to negotiations beginning Tuesday. She also celebrated having students back 5 days a week. Mrs. Dittman, Co-President of FEA discussed state testing. Students, Bailey, Alex, and Madelyn expressed concerns about Mr. Kuhn’s position being eliminated. Gina Hayward, a concerned parent expressed concerns about mask wearing 7 hours a day and read facts suggesting the dangers in wearing a mask.

CC. Updated Third Grade Assessments in Paper Format for 2021-2022

The superintendent recommends approval of Senate Bill 216, 132nd General Assembly, effective November 2, 2018, allowing districts the option of paper or online test administration only for the third-grade state assessments, beginning in the 2021-2022 school year as shown in EXHIBIT B.

DD. Acceptance of Stipend for Extended Learning Coordinator

The Superintendent recommends a stipend for Wendy Farrow of $4,800.00 for 24 additional days of service to coordinate the Findlay Digital Academy Extended Learning Opportunities Program.

EE. Employment of Instructional Coach

The Superintendent recommends the engagement of Ellen Laube as Instructional Coach for Findlay Digital Academy for the 2020-2021 school year to be purchased through Findlay City Schools at the cost of $22.43 per hour on an as needed basis effective April 1, 2021.

Mr. Roth reviewed Policy 5.02 Transportation and that no changes will be made to it for the 2021-2022 school year. Mrs. Biesiada explained the April 20th date in the contract for teachers to be notified if they will be Rif’d. She said it allows the teacher additional time to locate another position.

2021-004-008 NEW ATHLETIC LEAGUE – NORTHERN LAKES LEAGUE (NLL)

It was motioned by Mr. Aldrich, seconded by Mr. Cooper to approve the admission of the NLL no later than the 2023-2024 school year as shown in EXHIBIT I.

SUPERINTENDENTS COMMENTS

Mr. Roth reminded the Board about negotiations beginning on April 20, 2021.  State testing is to begin at FHS on Tuesday also. May 29, 2021 will be FHS graduation at Donnell Stadium. FDA graduation is also May 29, 2021 at The Marathon Performing Arts Center.
