FINDLAY CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING MINUTES

August 9, 2021

The Findlay City Schools Board of Education met August 9, 2021 in regular session at 6:00 p.m. at Donnell Middle School and via teleconference. President Siebenaler Wilson called the meeting to order. Present were Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Cooper, Ms. Eier, Mrs. Russel, Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, Treasurer Mrs. Harrington, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Miller, and Superintendent Mr. Roth.

2021-008-001 READING, APPROVAL, AND SIGNING OF MINUTES

It was motioned by Mr. Cooper, seconded by Ms. Eier to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes from July 19, 2021. 

Roll call: Mr. Cooper, aye; Ms. Eier, aye; Mr. Aldrich, aye; Mrs. Russel, aye; Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, aye. President Siebenaler Wilson declared the motion carried.

CELEBRATIONS

Mr. Imke welcomed everyone to Donnell. He celebrated all the new staff members at FHS and is excited to welcome them all to the building this week. FHS currently has 1588 students enrolled and is so appreciative that AC has been installed in every classroom. FHS will have a new collaboration schedule for the upcoming year to bring teachers together to improve instruction. Mr. Imke also shared FHS 2021-2022 Goals for the building. Mrs. Russel celebrated the changes taking place in the district and wanted to give a shout-out to Lameice Kenny, Gifted Secretary, for making Kelly Wohlgamuth’s transition so easy into the gifted department. Ms. Eier wished Assistant Superintendent a happy birthday and celebrated the turnout of Midnight Madness and the involvement of the community. Mr. Aldrich celebrated Northview’s custodial and fcs maintenance staff for the work they have done preparing the building and the modular for the upcoming school year. He also celebrated Bigelow Hill and their STEAM PD on August 5, 2021. Lastly, he celebrated Wilson Vance and the new modular. Mr. Cooper celebrated facilities and maintenance for all the work they have done this summer and the staff and administrators for prepping for the new year. He also celebrated all the fall athletes being back and ready to compete. Dr. Siebenaler Wilson celebrated MS and the work-based learning program. She also wanted to celebrate Glenwood and the excitement of staff for the start of the school year. Mr. Roth celebrated the Special Education Department for receiving the highest rating by the state of Ohio of Meets Requirements. He also celebrated Krista Crates-Miller on receiving the 23 Distinguished Alumni Award for FCS and welcomed Pam Harrington to FCS as the new treasurer.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Beth Atchison, parent and community member, suggested letting kids decide who to be friends with and not to divide them. Jason Lane, parent and community member, suggested letting the parents decide if their student should wear a mask in school. Joy Barger, parent and community member, suggested allowing each family to decide if their child will wear a mask in school. Jen Conway, parent and community member, discussed having transparency and honesty from the school district regarding masks. Dr. Wetzel, parent and community member, asked for data prior to requiring masks in school and suggested letting families decide if their child will wear a mask in school.

Anna Russo, parent and community member, asked the school to mandate masks in school until vaccines are available to students of all ages. Justin Donat, parent and community member, asked the Board to carefully consider the future ramifications to student’s health and well-being prior to requiring on a mask mandate. Joel Williams, parent and community member, asked the Board to adopt COVID protocols that treat each child equally regardless of their vaccination status and to prevent all students to attend without masks in accordance to their own wishes and the wishes of their family. Joseph Laumeyer, community member, asked the Board to mandate masks in school.

As the Community School Sponsor, the Superintendent recommends the approval of the Computer Based plan for disabled students for Findlay Digital Academy as presented in EXHIBIT F.

The treasurer recommends approval of the July Treasurer’s Report as shown in EXHIBIT G.

CC. Supplemental Duty Assignments – Non-Certificated Personnel for 2021-2022 School Year

  • WHEREAS, in accordance with the provision of the Ohio Revised Code 3313.53, the duly appointed representatives of the Findlay Board of Education have offered the following extra-duty positions, listed below, to the certificated employees of the district and have advertised the positions to certificated personnel not employed by the district, and
