FINDLAY CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING MINUTES

July 19, 2021

The Findlay City Schools Board of Education met July 19, 2021 in regular session at 6:00 p.m. at Donnell Middle School and via teleconference. President Siebenaler Wilson called the meeting to order. Present were Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Cooper, Ms. Eier, Mrs. Russel, Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, Treasurer Mr. Hammond, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Miller, and Superintendent Mr. Roth.

2021-007-005 READING, APPROVAL, AND SIGNING OF MINUTES

It was motioned by Mr. Cooper, seconded by Mrs. Russel to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes from June 28, 2021 and Special Meeting Minutes from June 8, 2021.

Roll call: Mr. Cooper, aye’ Mrs. Russel, aye; Mr. Aldrich, aye; Ms. Eier, aye; Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, aye. President Siebenaler Wilson declared the motion carried.

CELEBRATIONS

Mr. Roth celebrated over 100 students participating in Camp World and the classes of 85 and 86 being in town celebrating a combined reunion and toured Lincoln school.

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION

Mr. Roth proposed to move the strategic plan from Discussion Items to Public Participation.

2021-007-006 5 Year Strategic Plan

It was motioned by Mr. Aldrich, seconded by Mr. Cooper to move the Five-Year Strategic Plan discussion to Public Participation.

Roll call: Mr. Aldrich, aye; Mr. Cooper, aye; Ms. Eier, aye; Mrs. Russel, aye; Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, aye. President Siebenaler Wilson declared the motion carried.

Mr. Aldrich thanked Mr. Roth and the strategic plan committee for enhancing on the Ohio’s Whole Childs Framework and also mentioned the Critical Race Theory is not something being taught in FCS and any curriculum being taught has to have Board approval. Dr. Siebenaler Wilson reiterated what Mr. Aldrich stated regarding keeping everything in motion under the circumstances from the pandemic. Ann Whitman, a community member, spoke to the Board regarding rumors of Critical Race Theory being taught to in our school system and her views on the subject. Jerry Bermudez, a parent and community member, spoke about CRT and agreed with Ann Whitman that CRT starts at the home, not with teachers and at school and does not want races divided. Josh Oswald, parent and community member, had questions regarding the list of acronyms posted on the website that have since been removed. Beth Atchison, parent and community member, discussed the Strategic Plan and Casey Berquist, parent and community member, expressed concerns regarding mask mandates for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year.
