FINDLAY CITY SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING MINUTES – September 20, 2021

The Findlay City Schools Board of Education met September 20, 2021 in regular session at 6:00 p.m. at Donnell Middle School and via teleconference. President Siebenaler Wilson called the meeting to order. Present were Mr. Aldrich, Mr. Cooper, Ms. Eier, Mrs. Russel, Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, Treasurer Mrs. Harrington, Assistant Superintendent Mrs. Miller, and Superintendent Mr. Roth. 

2021-009-001 READING, APPROVAL, AND SIGNING OF MINUTES 

It was motioned by Mr. Aldrich, seconded by Mrs. Russel to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes from August 30, 2021. 

Roll call: Mr. Aldrich, aye; Mrs. Russel, aye; Mr. Cooper, aye; Ms. Eier, aye; Dr. Siebenaler Wilson, aye. President Siebenaler Wilson declared the motion carried. 

CELEBRATIONS 

Miss Panuto from the Trojan Academy spoke to the Board and presented enrollment numbers. She thanked all the teachers for all their hard work in preparing for the school year. Mrs. Russel celebrated The Kid Whisperer presentation at Jefferson Primary. Mr. Aldrich celebrated Wilson Vance and the new modular. He also celebrated Northview Primary and The Kid Whisperer presentation. Bigelow Hill hosted a family picnic outside with Pantasia providing the entertainment. Ms. Eier celebrated Chamberlin Hill and the STEM teacher/students for participating in the Mazza Museum opening. She also celebrated Jefferson and Chamberlin joining together for the homecoming parade. Mr. Roth celebrated FHS senior, Ethan Zeng for being recognized as a National Merit Scholar semi-finalist. 

PUBLIC PARTICIPATION 

Any individual desiring to speak shall give his/her name, address, and group, if any, that is represented. The presentation should be as brief as possible. Unless an extension of time is granted, the speaker shall be limited to five (5) minutes until the total of thirty (30) minutes is used. 

• FEA President, Angela Dittman celebrated The Kid Whisperer. She expressed her concern for the lack of planning periods for teachers due to them covering classrooms during COVID, the lack of substitutes, and the lack of a mask mandate in schools. Renee Leguire, a grandparent asked to have the minutes from the August 30th amended to state she is a grandparent and came to the August meeting to read a letter from Stephan Petty, an expert on masks. Lisa Guthrie, a parent spoke to the Board regarding masks. Laura Lane, a parent spoke to the Board thanking them for allowing the parents a choice regarding masks. She expressed her concern for “COVID Shaming” of students by teachers. 

CORRESPONDENCE 

Mr. Roth read a letter from a Tiffin City Schools retired counselor thanking Becky Wank, Janice Panuto and Harrison for supporting Tiffin City School students after the loss of the districts therapy dog. He also read correspondence from Scott Ervin stating Findlay City School educators are the best educators he has worked with in his 21 years in education.

Mr. Roth reminded everyone about Spirit Week and the parade on Friday at 5:30. He also reminded the Board the next regular Board meeting will be at Donnell on October 18, 2021.

It was motioned by Mr. Aldrich, seconded by Mr. Cooper to go into executive session at 6:48 pm to discuss employment and compensation of personnel, purchase or sale of property, and upcoming negotiations with employees.
