The 16th FCS Cares, Trauma-Informed Care inspired SHOUT-OUT goes to Laura Dyer (school counselor) and Christine Siebeneck (assistant principal) at FHS!

October’s shout-out celebrates a team effort to provide trauma-informed support for a student who desperately needed TLC, a listening ear, empathy, and unconditional acceptance.  There are many, many stories of staff stepping up in a huge way to help students by giving them an opportunity to shower at school, providing clothes and toiletries, washing their clothes, feeding students, and by providing school supplies like backpacks.  Sometimes, students go to school because this is their safe place and they don’t know where to go for help.

It is more important than ever, especially in the middle of a pandemic, to remember that you may never know what is going on in a student’s life, their daily stressors, and the importance of your kind words, smile, and patience.

Christine and Laura, thank you for working tirelessly to help our students and for the efforts to collaborate with helping agencies in our area.

FCS has 52 students who are foster placed and 21 students who meet the McKinney-Vento definition of homeless.

The Family Center 1800 N Blanchard St, offers many resources under one roof, and works with agencies such as Chopin Hall to provide clothing and food supplies. Click on this link to learn more about available services.
